Recently, the 2026 Wuxi Ecology Day Publicity Event was successfully held at the Wuxi National Software Park. During the event, the carbon neutrality results of the Wuxi home matches of the 2026 Jiangsu City Football League were officially announced, and SEMCORP was presented with a dedicated “Carbon Neutrality” certificate for the matches.
As a core partner supporting the carbon neutrality of the event, SEMCORP leveraged its refined ESG sustainability practices and localized carbon-sink initiatives to help Wuxi establish a new model for green and low-carbon sporting events, injecting corporate momentum into the city’s high-quality ecological development.

According to comprehensive calculations and verification conducted throughout the process by professional organizations, including the Wuxi Taihu Carbon Inclusive Green Development Center, the Wuxi home match against Yancheng in the Jiangsu City Football League generated a total of 386.73 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions, measured in carbon dioxide equivalent.
To accurately offset the event’s carbon emissions and fulfill its environmental and social responsibilities, SEMCORP drew on Wuxi’s local ecological resources and procured emission reductions from carbon-sink projects involving bamboo forests and wetlands in Yixing.
Through a genuine, traceable and locally sourced carbon-sink offsetting approach, SEMCORP successfully achieved 100% carbon neutrality for the football match. This demonstrates that the green transformation of sporting events is no longer merely a form of “green packaging,” but rather a low-carbon practice that is quantifiable through data, traceable in implementation and measurable in results.
Rather than relying on broad-based or generalized public welfare initiatives, SEMCORP has consistently embraced a green development philosophy centered on integrating sustainability into everyday actions and delivering targeted impact. The company has deeply embedded ESG governance into the details of local urban development as well as sports and cultural initiatives.
Sporting events serve as an important platform for promoting a city’s green development philosophy, as well as a key vehicle for bringing together government, businesses and the public and encouraging low-carbon lifestyles.
The low-carbon transformation of a mass sporting event encompasses the entire chain, from operations and services to participation and post-event activities, requiring coordinated efforts from all stakeholders.
Taking an active approach to corporate responsibility and focusing on localized green initiatives, SEMCORP goes beyond individual carbon offsets. Through its established ESG management system, the company is helping Wuxi develop a closed-loop framework for green sporting events encompassing accurate carbon-emissions accounting, compliant carbon-sink offsetting and broad public participation through carbon-inclusive initiatives.

From helping a single sporting event achieve carbon neutrality across its entire scope to promoting green event practices among the wider public, SEMCORP continues to use carbon as a link and sustainability as its core, deeply integrating its corporate sustainability practices with Wuxi’s ecological development and cultural and sports initiatives.
Looking ahead, SEMCORP will continue to uphold its refined ESG development philosophy, deepen localized green initiatives, explore innovative applications of carbon resources and expand pathways for green collaboration between government and businesses.
Through a series of small but meaningful green actions, SEMCORP will help build collective momentum for a low-carbon future and support Wuxi in establishing a new model of green development characterized by broad public participation, comprehensive coverage and end-to-end management, while continuing to contribute to the city’s high-quality ecological development.
